What is Portabl?

Portabl is a unified solution designed to serve the flexible workforce and support independent workers with holistic insurance and benefits across their health, wealth, work and life.

Signing up

How do I sign up to Portabl?

Currently, to sign up to Portabl you will need to be sent an email invite. Once you have received your invite, simply click the button to sign up and you will be shown all applicable membership options. Then pick your membership, enter your details and go through to the payment. When your payment is confirmed you will officially become a member of Portabl.


Can anyone sign up to Portabl?

We are currently focussing our first cohort on IT professionals. However, we are constantly expanding Portabl so please join our waitlist to hear when our memberships will be available to all independent workers.


How do I activate my account?

Once you’ve signed up to Portabl you should receive an email asking you to activate your account. Please be sure to check your spam or junk folder in case the email has been filtered into there. If you’re still unable to find your activation email, please email us at hello@portabl.co and we’ll be happy to resend this for you.


Pricing and payments

How much does Portabl membership cost?

We have various memberships available which will depend on the number of benefits you wish to add to your membership.


Do your prices include VAT?

All prices shown on our website and platform include any necessary VAT and/or IPT.


How can I pay for my membership?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and JCB cards. All payments will be taken in GBP (£).


What is a bundle?

Our bundles are groups of products we’ve collected together to offer you the best price for all the policies included.

If there are any products you’d love to see in a bundle, feel free to let us know over on our Portabl feedback page.


How do I purchase a product?

Products that are available to be purchased outside of a bundle will show on your dashboard under the ‘Available products’ section. Here you can click on a product tile to view more information about the product, and can then add a product to your basket.

Please note that some products will require you to get a quote before you’re able to complete your purchase.


Can I purchase bundled products on their own?

Unfortunately it’s not currently possible to purchase our bundled products on their own. This is because we have collected the products in the bundle to enable us to offer the best price possible for these products. We are always looking for ways to improve Portabl though, so if you would still like to see products individually, please let us know by posting on our Portabl feedback space.



How do I log in to Portabl?

Once you've subscribed to Portabl, click Log In on our homepage to be taken to the login screen. You can then enter your email address and password to login. 


I've forgotten my Portabl password

If you’ve forgotten your password, simply click on the ‘Forgot your password?’ button at our login screen. You can then enter your email and we’ll send you a link to reset your password.


How do I view and make changes to my Profile?

To view your profile, first you need to login to your account. Once you’ve signed in, you can take the following steps.

Click the cog next to your name in the menu bar and select ‘Profile’. You will now see your profile information. Here you can edit your name, password, email address and phone number, write your bio, and even upload a photo. You can also select which email notifications you’d like to receive. Once you’re happy, click ‘Save changes’ to save your updates.


How do I cancel my membership?

If you wish to cancel your membership, please email us at payments@portabl.co. Please note that we have a cooling-off period of 14 days for all memberships. If you wish to cancel your membership within this cooling-off period you will receive a full refund. Any cancellations outside of this period will not be eligible for a full refund and will be considered on an individual basis.


How do I change my email address?

To update your email address, simply login to your dashboard and view your profile. You can then type your updated email address in the ‘Email address’ box’. Click ‘Save changes’ and your details will be updated. Please note that you will need to re-activate your account from your new email address. You will receive an email to the new address asking you to activate your account. Until this step has been taken you will be unable to access your account.


How do I update my phone number?

To update your phone number, simply login to your dashboard and view your profile. You can then type your updated phone number in the ‘Phone number’ box. Click ‘Save changes’ and your details will be updated for you.


How do I log out?

To log out of your Portabl account, click the cog next to your name at the bottom of the menu bar and then click ‘Log out’. You will now be logged out of your account.



What is the Portabl Dashboard?

Once you have logged into your Portabl account you will be taken to the Portabl Dashboard. Here you can see your subscriptions and access each of your purchased products.


How do I see my active subscriptions?

After logging into your account you will see your active subscriptions under the ‘My subscriptions’ heading. You can then click on each tile to see further information about the product and access your benefits, make a claim, or find your policy documents.



How do I view my Wallet?

To view your Wallet, first log in to your Portabl account. Then click 'Wallet' in the menu bar to open your wallet.


What can I see in my Wallet?

The Wallet will show you the cost of your next pending payment, the cost of your last successful payment and a breakdown of all your subscription costs.

Here you can also manage and pause your subscriptions.


How do I download an invoice?

Once you’ve logged into your account, click the Wallet tab in the menu to see all your payment information. Here you will see a tile showing your last successful payment. Click the ‘Download invoice’ button on the tile to download a copy of your most recent invoice.



How do I make a claim?

The claims process may vary between products, but we’ve added a ‘How to claim’ tab for each product you can make a claim for to help with this.

If you need to make a claim, simply login to your Dashboard and click on the tile of the product you need to claim under. Then click on the ‘How to claim’ tab to see more information.

If it’s possible to make a claim for a product you’ll see the ‘Make a claim’ button at the bottom of the product information tile. Clicking this may bring up a phone number you need to call to start your claim, or a form to fill out your details and allow us to get in touch with you.


How do I view my policy documents?

Once you’ve purchased a product you’ll see this display on your Dashboard. If you click on the product tile you’ll then see more information about this product appear. You can then click the ‘Policy details’ tab to display any documents related to that policy and download these.



What is the Portabl community?

As independent workers ourselves, we know that working on your own can mean you don’t have the same workplace support system you might have as an FTE. We’ve created the Portabl community to help bridge this gap – it's a group of people just like you who are ready and willing to share their pain points, helpful tips and the things they love about being an independent!

We also use the Portabl community to get feedback from you about what you’d like to see us offer next on the Portabl platform. Whether it’s subsidised gym membership or monthly meetups, let us know in the Portabl feedback space.


How do I access the Portabl community?

With your Portabl membership you’ll also have access to the Portabl community. Our community is where we’ll share useful information, interesting thought pieces and allow you to introduce yourself to likeminded independents too. It’s also where you can find our knowledge base and blog.


What is each community space used for?

Our community consists of a number of spaces, and each can be used for different topics. Our current spaces are:

  • Say hello: Here you can introduce yourself to the rest of the Portabl community and discuss what you love about independent working.
  • Useful resources: This is where we post any resources we think you’ll find useful as an independent. Feel free to let us know if there are any resources you think we should add!
  • Conversations: This space is for you to have discussions with the rest of the community. We post articles, questions and comments we think you’ll want to talk about but feel free to post your own topics, questions, and comments here too.
  • Knowledge base: Here we share short how-to guides to help you get the best out of your Portabl membership. If there’s a question we haven’t answered, just post it – we'll comment with an answer for you.
  • Portabl feedback: We use this space to get feedback from you about what you like about Portabl and what you’d like to see added, so we can make sure we’re always creating the platform you need as an independent worker.
  • Product roadmap: In this space we keep you up to date with our roadmap and plans for Portabl so we can get your feedback on what we should prioritise.
  • Blog: On our blog we publish posts written by us, for you. From topics specific to independents to wellness pieces for everyone, we want to make sure you can always find an interesting read.
